Let Us Help You Implement a Top Class Project Delivery System

IPA has identified the practices necessary for successful project delivery at the portfolio/corporate level and provides specialized consulting services to help engineer project delivery systems. The product of IPA’s Re-engineering service is the design of a top class project system for the management of capital projects. IPA achieves this by assessing the current state of its client’s capital project management system, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and mapping the current system against a proven project delivery framework.

This is achieved through “As Is” process mapping in which IPA facilitates a working group consisting of client representatives responsible for capital project delivery to understand the manner by which projects are currently developed and executed. This work focuses on organizational issues relating to the project management structure, the project development process, and the project execution planning process currently in place. “As Is” process mapping allows for the development of a physical model to depict the logical flow of the client’s current work process.

The “As Is” process allows IPA to model the workflow for the client and identify areas in which the process can be optimized. This analysis is therefore used as the basis for the identification of organization models, essential project competencies required, and appropriate work processes that are the ingredients to Best project performance. In this respect, IPA pioneered the development of the five-stage capital work process that is now employed by the most-effective companies in the process industries, including DuPont, BP, Dow Chemical, and Chevron. We can also provide Organizational Assessment studies as a tool to determine the personnel and competencies that our clients need to meet the requirements of their capital investment portfolio.

The end product is a set of procedures and a series of deliverables that will help achieve the optimal amount of preparation for projects so that they can be executed effectively. Consequently, the new project system will ensure the correct deployment and utilization of project capital and an improvement in the internal rate of return for capital invested. Ultimately, the new project system will deliver:

  • Competitive project targets and results (safety, cost, schedule, and operability)
  • Adequate predictability of sanction targets (cost, schedule, and operability)
  • Adequate and rational utilization of project system resources
  • Development of a project professional career path within the company
