Closeout Evaluation

A closeout evaluation summarizes the performance of a completed project. We compare the performance of your project with the performance of similar projects in the industry and with the company's average performance. In order to supply valid industry benchmarks, we use IPA's Project Evaluation System (PES) models, using data contained in the IPA databases for industry comparisons. Using the statistical models in conjunction with historical project data from the databases, we are able to measure the status of project drivers as well as project outcomes.

HOW CAN YOUR COMPANY BENEFIT?

The closeout analysis places project results in perspective with other projects of similar size and difficulty. An IPA closeout evaluation of your project will answer the following questions:

  • Relative to comparable industry projects, did this project spend too much?
  • Relative to comparable industry projects, was the project relatively fast or slow in project definition, engineering, construction in the field, and in startup?
  • How well was the project prepared and estimated relative to industry averages and the best projects in industry?
  • What practices were followed, and how did these compare with best practices?
  • How did the project practices drive its outcomes?
  • What lessons can be learned from this project that can be usefully applied to future projects?

CLOSEOUT EVALUATION DELIVERABLES

One of the important features of a closeout evaluation is a set of lessons learned. By measuring project drivers and outcomes, we can identify the factors that affected overall project performance. Based on our analysis of these factors, we develop a set of lessons learned to assist the project team in executing successful projects in the future. Some of the items represent opportunities for improvement, while others highlight positive practices that should be perpetuated.
