The Power Benchmarking Forum is scheduled to be held at the IPA Headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia on September 18, 2002. A reception at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott is planned for the evening of September 17, prior to the forum. The reception will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Power Benchmarking Forum is in keeping with IPA's vision to share performance and practices of all aspects of capital effectiveness. This first meeting will present information on statistical best practices in the power industry. The forum will look at trends and practices for the power industry and will last one day. The forum sessions will present research studies carried out by IPA and will provide a platform for companies to share practices. The centerpiece of the forum is the sharing of practices and lessons learned by participating companies. Agenda The morning session will focus on capital effectiveness in the power industry and how companies can use Best Practices of project management to create and upgrade power assets with world-class efficiency. This morning session includes a presentation of IPA's research into the drivers of excellent cost and schedule performance in the power industry and a presentation by BP Global Power of how this company is using Best Practices and benchmarking to drive continuous increases in the effectiveness of capital investment programs. The afternoon session will provide a platform for some of the major companies in the power industry to discuss lessons learned from power projects and to chart a path forward to improved project performance. The majority of the afternoon session is dedicated to a group discussion of how individual companies have learned to manage power projects and some of the pitfalls that they have been careful to avoid in the past. The remainder of the day's session will be devoted to a presentation on the role of the investment banks in project management.
