ABOUT THE ROLE

Independent Project Analysis, Inc. (IPA) has an opening in our US office in Ashburn, VA, for a Research Analyst on the Carbon Management and Sustainability team. In this role, you will work with a rapidly growing and entrepreneurial team, leveraging our expertise and unmatched data, to advise clients on their energy transition and sustainability improvement journey.

The Research Analyst focuses on developing analytical products and frameworks that support our benchmarking business as well as targeted research to help clients in the oil & gas, renewable energy, chemicals, mining & minerals, and other major commodity areas. This role is primarily focused on creating new products that drive the company forward and help our clients navigate a changing world. IPA seeks a candidate for the Research Analyst position with strong analytical skills and intellectual curiosity who is looking to grow into an industry thought leader. The candidate’s interest in studying the complex relationships between project practices and outcomes is critical as is an ability to help with decision-making using real industry data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The general responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing new products and frameworks focused on improving sustainability performance of capital projects across onshore manufacturing and processing sectors (chemicals, refining, minerals)
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative research and translating it into clear insights and recommendations
  • Developing reports and presentations, and delivering verbal (virtual or in-person) presentations to technical and business audiences
  • Working directly with client project teams and project organizations to improve business competitiveness
  • Acting as an internal thought partner in shaping and developing strategy for long-term growth
  • Staying abreast of trends in low-carbon technologies and external drivers (regulations, carbon pricing, industry collaborations, etc.) that influence capital investments

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

AND

2+ years of experience working in an HSE, Process Engineering, or Operations group in the power generation, fuels, chemicals, or minerals industry.

AND

One or more of the following:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental sustainability performance—quantification and drivers
  • Good understanding of low-carbon technologies and circularity
  • Experience working in multi-stakeholder settings or on corporate sustainability projects
  • Familiarity with various sustainability reporting and disclosure frameworks such as CDP, SASB, TCFD, etc.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position will involve approximately 10 to 15 percent travel.
