History

  1. 1987

    IPA is founded by Edward Merrow in the basement of his home

  2. 1990

    IPA moves out of Merrow’s home to an office in Reston, Virginia

  3. 1992

    The formation of the Upstream IBC (UIBC), along with cost sub-committees (Cost Engineering Committee and Upstream Cost Engineering Committee) would soon follow

    IPA opens its first international office in the Hague, Netherlands

  4. 1996

    IPA opens an office in Melbourne, Australia

  5. 1998

    Edward Merrow wins the Construction Industry Institute Carroll H. Dunn Award of Excellence to honor an individual for accomplishments in improving the cost effectiveness of the construction industry

    IPA’s research group, now known as the Projects Research Division, is formed

  6. 2001

    IPA corporate headquarters moves from Reston, Virginia to Ashburn, Virginia

  7. 2002

    The IPA Institute, IPA’s project management training division, is founded

  8. 2006

    IPA opens offices in Singapore and Reading, United Kingdom

  9. 2007

    IPA opens an office in Curitiba, Brazil

  10. 2011

    Edward Merrow’s first book, Industrial Megaprojects: Concepts, Strategies, and Practices for Success is published by Wiley in May 2011

  11. 2012

    Edward Merrow receives the 2012 AACEI Award of Merit, the association’s highest individual honor for outstanding service and meritorious accomplishments to the cost management and cost engineering profession

  12. 2014

    IPA recognized as one of The Washington Post Top Workplaces in the Washington, D.C. area

  13. 2016

    IPA receives the Industrial Appreciation Award, AACE International’s highest corporate honor for cost management service

  15. 2018

    Co-written by Edward Merrow and Neeraj Nandurdikar, IPA’s third book, Leading Complex Projects: A Data-Driven Approach to Mastering the Human Side of Project Management, is published in May 2018

    The 20,000th project is added to the database

    IPA Capital Solutions identified by ALM Intelligence as a global leader in capital projects and infrastructure consulting

    Contract Strategies for Major Projects, written by Edward Merrow, is published in December
